The title of Angel of the Children of Africa - on behalf of African children - has been awarded since 2024 by the International Chapter of Angels of the Children of Africa to a person who has dedicated his or her professional, social or personal life in a special and selfless way to children living on the African continent, protecting them from social injustice and providing care and support in the educational process, respecting the dignity and rights of the child.
The International Chapter of the Children of Africa Angels consists of the Founders of the foundation, members of its bodies, the chaplain of the foundation and people distinguished by the Founders with the title of MISJONER (see) and of course the Winners of the "African Angel" award.
The distinguished person may, but does not have to, be a person cooperating with the Children of Africa Foundation, but should demonstrate at least 10 years of experience in activities for African children and have Polish citizenship.
The procedure for submitting candidates begins in Mission Week (third Sunday in October) and lasts until November 15. The Angel of the Children of Africa is chosen by the Chapter and the audience. Both votes are separate, they begin in the first week of December and end on January 6. After adding up both votes, the Board chooses the winner.
In June, on the occasion of the Day of the African Child, the Laureate of the Award is awarded the title of "Angel of the Children of Africa" confirmed by a personalized certificate, a statuette with an angel wing by Zofia Pilich and a cash grant for any purpose implemented, e.g. by themselves for the benefit of children in Africa. The statuette is made of bronze, polished to a gold color. The shape of the wing is inspired by iconographic representations of angel wings. The wing - a symbol of an angel of our times, or a person, as Wim Wenders said, who "is interested in others before he is interested in himself". The enameled white and red heart placed in the wing refers to the requirement of Polish citizenship for the Laureate of the Award. The base of the statuette is Namibian marble, linking the award to the African continent. Weight 2.5 kg.
