Healthcare in Africa is among the least effective in the world. It is difficult to access for ordinary people. The leading causes of death are HIV/AIDS, malaria, respiratory diseases, diarrhea, perinatal complications and many others.
Clinics and small health centers provide medical consultations, diagnostics and routine treatment. The effectiveness of medical services is below standards. There is a shortage of medical personnel, diagnostic equipment and medicines. Healthcare facilities suffer from lack of electricity and access to clean water.
In underdeveloped countries, the work of nurses and midwives is of particular importance. At the local level of treatment (commune, district), there is a shortage of doctors.
According to the standards of the World Health Organization, there should be 1 doctor per 5,000 inhabitants. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there are only 16 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants.
The team of CHILDREN OF AFRICA medical volunteers includes an ophthalmologist, dermatologist and pharmacist. Our volunteers finance their mission trips themselves. They visit places previously "discovered" by the foundation to help poor Africans.
